Principal’s Welcome

principal's messageA Great Place to Study

St George's, University of London

St George’s is justifiably proud of its distinctiveness as the only specialist health sciences university in the United Kingdom. We take great pride in working with the University of Nicosia to provide the first graduate medical training programme in Cyprus.

Why the St George's programme in Nicosia?

This prospectus sets out the attractions of studying on a degree programme that combines the strengths of St George’s, University of London and the University of Nicosia. Students benefit from the expertise of St George’s, our reputation and our tradition of training doctors for over 250 years from our London location. Our courses are informed by research, and our close links with healthcare providers ensure that our programmes continue to meet the changing needs of public health and healthcare professions.

What is distinctive about St George's?

We have an illustrious history and a tradition of innovation in research and education. This stretches from John Hunter – widely regarded as the founder of modern surgery – and Edward Jenner – famed for developing the first successful vaccine, and finding a cure for the deadly disease smallpox – in the 1700s, to modern day internationally recognised scientists at the forefront of treating infectious diseases, cardiovascular disease and stroke. Our clinical scientists work closely with biological scientists to better understand the biological and genetic mechanisms that lead to illness, and the most effective methods for preventing disease. We are proud of how this knowledge is translated into the care of patients and we are delighted to extend this dedication to care internationally.

Why is St George's for you?

Our students based in London consider St George’s to be an incredible place to study – they rate the university very highly (we are the top university in London in a Times Higher Education survey in 2011). They acknowledge the teaching to be exceptional and value the closeness with the academic and administrative staff. Importantly, our students rate their facilities highly. Our partnership with the University of Nicosia provides a comparable experience for students on our international programme.

What now?

Choosing a university and a degree programme require considerable thought – it is one of the most important and challenging decisions of your life. As an alumnus of St George’s I harbour many happy memories of student life – I hope that you too will feel similarly in the future and hope that you will give serious consideration to the St George’s, University of London medical programme in Nicosia.
