The University of Nicosia Medical School celebrated the third graduation of doctors in Cyprus with a ceremony held at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre in Nicosia on 5 May. Attended by parents and guests from across the globe the event saw 81 students graduating from three different medical programmes: the St George’s, University of London Bachelor of Medicine – Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS); the University of Nicosia Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine; and the St George’s, University of London Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare and Biomedical Education.

Attending the graduation ceremony were the President of Parliament, representatives from the Ministries of Health and Education, the British High Commissioner, the Ambassadors of Ireland, Israel and Oman, the President of the Cyprus Medical Association, and representatives of many medical societies and of the School’s partner hospitals in Cyprus, Israel, the United States and Puerto Rico.

Professor of General Practice and Chairman of the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) David Haslam was the Keynote speaker.

This ceremony also recognised two distinguished professors for their contributions to science, education, and patient care.  The degree of Doctor of Science (Medicine) honoris causa from the University of Nicosia was awarded to Professor Peter Kopelman and to Professor Zeev Rotstein.
