Accreditation
The MBBS programme is offered under the degree-granting powers of St George's, University of London and is recognised worldwide. St George's was the first medical school in the United Kingdom to offer a graduate entry programme in medicine and is the only independently governed medical school in that country. It is recognised for excellence in medical education, receiving a score of 23 out of 24 in the UK's Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) inspection of medicine – the highest score of any London medical school.
The St George's, University of London Medical Programme at the University of Nicosia (SGUL, Nicosia) provides a firm foundation on which to build a career in the global healthcare sector.
After completing your MBBS degree, you will be eligible for provisional registration with a licence to practise with the UK General Medical Council, provided your fitness to practise is not impaired.
To gain full GMC registration with a licence to practise as a holder of a UK primary medical qualification, MBBS (SGUL, Nicosia) graduates would need to complete a programme for provisionally registered doctors, be awarded a Certificate of Experience and demonstrate their fitness to practise is not impaired. At present, the only recognised programme for provisionally registered doctors is the first year of the foundation programme (F1) provided by the postgraduate deaneries of the UK.
Applicants from outside the UK and EU should note, that as MBBS (SGUL, Nicosia) graduates, you will potentially not be able to complete the first year of foundation training in the UK leading to full registration, as under prevailing UK immigration rules you may not be able to get a work permit.
While the St George's MBBS is recognised by many different countries, applicants from outside the European Community are advised to check with their own individual national authorities if they wish to practise in their own country.
