Founding Chair:  Prof Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran

Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran is the President of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, past  President of the British Medical Association and past President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.  Professor Sir Arulkumaran’s research and clinical interests are in understanding and improving the quality of life for women and new-born babies. He has been in clinical practice for 37 years and in research and teaching for 25 years.  He has written or edited 24 books, 240 articles, and more than 150 book chapters.  He has been editor-in-chief of the scientific journal ‘Best Practices and Research in Clinical Obstetrics and Gynaecology’ since 1998.  In 2009 Professor Arulkumaran was appointed Knight Bachelor for his services to medicine.

Prior to his appointment at the Medical school of the University of Nicosia, Professor Arulkumaran was Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George’s, University of London (SGUL) for 12 years.
