White Coat Ceremony 2016

The Medical School Student Society has been busy recently celebrating major milestones for our students. We held the 4th annual White Coat Ceremony in the library and had guests travel from around the world to join us in celebrating the transition of our T Year students from their clinical science years into their clinical placements. We wish our T Year students the best of luck in their studies as they prepare to move to Chicago, Tel Aviv and Puerto Rico and look forward to seeing more of the students that are staying with us in Cyprus.

Graduation Ceremony 2016

We also attended the graduation ceremony and got to share in the celebrations with our F Year students as they became doctors. The graduation was filled with heart-warming advice and funny jokes and was the perfect way to send off our graduands! After the graduation ceremony we held the Graduation Dinner Gala at the Hilton Park Hotel where we shared a delicious dinner, presented the class awards and ended the evening with a dance joined by Professor Karayiannis, Dr Hynes and Ms Griffiths. As our F Years move into the next chapters of their lives we can’t help but feel proud of the students who have taught us in our clinical skills and have been there to guide the younger students. We wish them all the best in their careers!

Earlier in the year we held the Spring Fling to celebrate the MD-6 examinations finishing and helped them let their hair down. We also held a charity bake sale in collaboration with the Student Service Centre which raised 132 Euros for the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre and on the same day we held a blood drive which was a complete success. We would like to thank everyone who helped on the day by donating cakes, buying them, eating them and to those who stopped by to donate blood. We also had the chance to visit the Hope for Children shelter in Nicosia to gift them with cupcakes and cookies. Earlier in the year we released the fantastic news that the Specialist Interest Societies have now been approved and this year saw the formation of the Surgical Society and the Field, Emergency and Wilderness Medicine Society. We’re looking forward to seeing what these guys are up to this year.

You can now follow what we have been up to on Facebook

which we are updating regularly with photos from our events and advertise events that other societies are running.

As the year is drawing to a close and everyone enters “exam mode” we want to wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to seeing them all on the other side at the End of Year Summerscape.
